Treetop walks
I remember the first lecture I gave in art history, it was titled "The Work of Art, the Imprint of a Journey." I was fascinated by artists who used walking as an aesthetic practice to develop an anchor in a place, create a ritual, or generate fictions. I'm thinking of Marina Abromovic's The Great Wall Walk, Janet Cardiff's Audio Walks, or land artist Nancy Holt's Stone Ruin Tours. As a passionate urban walker and hiker myself, I drew inspiration from all these artists and my knowledge of urban forestry to develop creative tree walks that unfold according to multiple themes and for different audiences. The tree walk is both an aesthetic and social experience that involves observing urban trees. It is also a space for sharing to cultivate one's connection to the territory and strengthen the community.
